– According to these regulations, the use of newspapers for packaging, serving, or storing food should be immediately discontinued, as the ink used in newspapers contains various bioactive substances that can contaminate food and lead to health-related problems upon ingestion.
– Printing inks may contain chemicals, including heavy metals, that can enter the body through food.
About FSSAI:
– The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India.

Elderly Population in 2022 and 2050:
– According to the ‘India Ageing Report 2023,’ in 2022, there were 149 million people in the country aged 60 and above, accounting for approximately 10.5% of India’s population.
– It is estimated that by 2050, the number of elderly people will double to 347 million, or 20.8% of the population.
Projected Increase in the Elderly Population:
– India’s decade growth rate of the elderly population is estimated to be 41% at present, and it is projected that by 2050, the proportion of the elderly population in the country will more than double, accounting for over 20% of the total population.
– The report estimates that the population of people aged 80 and above will increase by approximately 279% between 2022 and 2050.
– Therefore, strengthening social security, including elderly pensions, is essential in this context.
More Than 40% in Poverty:
– The report states that in India, more than 40% of the elderly population falls into the poorest wealth category.
Need for Pensions:
– In India, the majority of workers in the informal sector lack any form of social security like pensions and health insurance.
– According to the report, based on the ‘Longitudinal Ageing Study of India 2017-18,’ approximately 11% of elderly men receive pensions from their previous employment, and 16.3% receive social pensions.
– Among them, around 18.7% live without any income.
– The report emphasizes that such levels of poverty can affect their quality of life and access to healthcare.
Government Schemes for the Elderly:
– The Central Government runs a comprehensive National Social Assistance Program (NSAP) for the elderly.
– NSAP consists of three sub-schemes: Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, and Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme.
– The Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme provides a monthly amount of 200 rupees to individuals below the poverty line aged 60 to 79 years.
– Under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, all individuals above 18 years of age receive a monthly pension of 300 rupees.
– The Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme provides a monthly amount of 300 rupees to widows aged 40 years or older. After attaining the age of 80, beneficiaries in these categories receive 500 rupees per month.
– Additionally, elderly individuals aged 65 years and above who do not receive any social pension are entitled to receive 10 kilograms of free grain every month.
Note: The monthly pension amounts of 200 rupees and 300 rupees from the Central Government’s scheme have remained unchanged since 2007. The Central Government is providing its employees with a 42% Dearness Allowance on their salaries, while it is not showing the same concern for the elderly. Experts consider this move by the government as a sign of insensitivity.

– He spoke for a society deeply rooted in the democratic values of ancient traditions. India’s thinking, perspective, and actions are more down-to-earth and effective.
