India called for a reduction in tension:
– Before the voting, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Rajdoot Yojana Patel, said that the terrorist attack on October 7 is alarming. She demanded the immediate release of detainees.
– She mentioned that the number of casualties in Gaza is a matter of continuous concern and there is a need to deal with this crisis.
– Welcoming ongoing efforts and reiterating support for a two-state solution, she urged parties to work towards reducing violence and restarting meaningful peace talks.
Will the Israel-Hamas conflict stop with this UNGA proposal?
– Despite the passage of the proposal, Israel has expanded ground operations and intensified its bombing campaign.
– Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said they will not sit quietly and allow Hamas to commit such atrocities. Israel has the right to defend itself, and ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated will only be guaranteed when Hamas is completely eliminated.
