– WHO has stated that there has been an increase in a disease resembling influenza in northern China over the last three years, starting mid-October.
– WHO has asked the Chinese government about the origins and spread of this mysterious respiratory disease.
– The first alert about this disease worldwide has been issued by a surveillance platform called ‘ProMED.’
– This platform keeps track of diseases spreading among humans and animals. It previously issued an alert about Covid in December 2019.
Many hospitals in China are filled with patients:
– The extent of the epidemic can be estimated by the fact that all hospitals within a radius of about 800 kilometers around Beijing are filled with patients.
– The severity of the disease has led to the closure of schools in many areas of China, and measures similar to those during Covid times have been enforced (such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, handwashing, etc.).

3. The diplomat of which neighboring country announced the permanent closure of its embassy in India?
a. China
b. Pakistan
c. Afghanistan
d. Sri Lanka
Answer: c. Afghanistan
– The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021.
– However, most countries in the world still have diplomats from the previous Afghan government working.
– The same was happening in India too.
– But now, the appointed Farid Mamundzay by the former Afghan government has officially announced the closure of the embassy in India from November 23, 2023.
– He does not recognize the Taliban’s control, believing they forcibly took over.
In May 2023, the Taliban appointed their acting ambassador in India for the first time. His name was Kadir Shah.
– The Taliban stated that diplomats appointed by the previous Afghan regime were corrupt, hence the appointment of a new ambassador.
– Meanwhile, political officials from the former government have shifted to a third country.
What did Farid Mamundzay say while closing the embassy?
– The embassy stated that the decision was made following “continuing pressure to relinquish control by both the Taliban and the Indian government.”
– It mentioned, “This decision was taken after the closure of the embassy by the embassy on September 30. It was expected that the Indian government would change its approach favorably to operate the mission normally.” He said, “Unfortunately, despite waiting for eight weeks, the goals of visa extension for diplomats and changes in the behavior of the Indian government were not realized.”
– The statement said, “Faced with continued pressure to relinquish control from both the Taliban and the Indian government, the embassy had to confront a difficult option.”
– Farid said, “The political representatives of the Afghan Republic have completely handed over the mission to the Indian government. It now depends on the Indian government to decide the fate of the mission, whether to shut it down or consider options, including handing it over to Taliban diplomats. The responsibility of the officially appointed political representatives of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has formally ended. The unfortunate end of the Republic’s mission in India is a symbol of the conclusion of the Afghan Republic.”
Requested the Government of India:
– The first request was that the Indian government should take possession of $500,000 in the assets of the Afghan diplomatic mission, bank accounts, vehicles, and bank accounts of the embassy. Second, the government should continue to fly the flag of Afghanistan at the embassy premises. And third, ensure the protection of the embassy’s property and assets with the understanding that they will be handed over to a duly elected or appointed legitimate government chosen by the Afghan people in the future.
