– Approximately 6,500 kilograms of medical assistance and 32,000 kilograms of disaster relief supplies were sent via C-17 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
– The boxes are labeled as a gift from the people of India to the Palestinians.
What was sent as humanitarian aid:
– The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the C-17 aircraft arrived at El-Arish Airport in Egypt, which is near southern Gaza.
– It includes essential life-saving medicines, surgical supplies, tents, sleeping bags, water purification tablets, and other necessary items.
– This equipment will be transported by truck from the Rafah border to Gaza.
– The Israel-Hamas conflict had kept this border closed since the beginning of the hostilities. However, after the United Nations initiative, Egypt has opened this border only for sending relief supplies.
India had reiterated its stance on the establishment of a Palestinian state:
– The Ministry of External Affairs had stated on October 12, 2023, that India believes in its longstanding support for the establishment of a “sovereign, independent, and viable” state of Palestine. India has consistently advocated for the resumption of direct negotiations to establish a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine, living within secure and recognized borders, side by side with Israel.
– In addition to this, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned the Hamas attack on Israel as an act of terrorism.
– In fact, India was one of the first countries to grant recognition to Palestine as a state back in 1988.
India had recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in 1974.
– India had reaffirmed its solidarity with Palestine during the Non-Aligned Movement Summit it hosted in 1983, standing united with Palestine.

– Justice Bhatt said, “If indeed you want to be equal in all respects, then it is obligatory for us to fulfill our promises on the provisions for liberation, such as Article 15(2), which have been given to all sections of society. The Center and the states are mandated to ensure that the practice of manual scavenging is completely eliminated. Article 15(2) of the Constitution states that the government shall not discriminate against any citizen only on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth.”
How many people died in the last five years?
– According to the data presented in the Lok Sabha in July 2022, in the past five years, at least 347 people died in India while cleaning sewers and septic tanks.
– Of these deaths, 40% occurred in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi.
Note – Before this, in 2014, the Supreme Court ordered that families of those engaged in sanitation work during sewer cleaning be given compensation of 10 lakh rupees.
Central Government’s “Namaste Yojana” for Sewer Cleaning
– Namaste Yojana: National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem
– This scheme falls under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE).
– It was launched as a central sector scheme in 2022.
– In the Central Budget for 2023-2024, around 100 crore rupees were allocated for this scheme.
– Through this scheme, the government aims to enable 100% mechanical cleaning of septic tanks and sewers in all cities and towns.
