– The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had estimated a GDP growth rate of 7%, but it exceeded by 0.2%.
– However, compared to the GDP growth rate of 9.1% in the previous financial year 2021-22, the growth rate is lower in 2022-23.

– 2019-20: 3.9%
– 2018-19: 6.5%
The average growth rate in the past years remained only 3.4%.
– Real GDP was ₹140 lakh crore in 2018-19.
– Real GDP was ₹149.26 lakh crore in 2021-22.
– Real GDP is projected to be ₹160.06 lakh crore in 2022-23.
– Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter (January-March 2023), India’s GDP growth has reached 6.1%.
What is GDP?
– Gross Domestic Product (GDP) refers to the total value of all goods and services produced in a country during one year.
– GDP is the largest measure of a country’s economic development.
– A higher GDP indicates that the country’s economy is growing, creating more employment opportunities.
– A lower GDP signifies economic setbacks, increasing the problem of unemployment.

GDP growth rate figures for quarters:
– January to March 2023: 6.1%
– October to December 2022: 4.4%

India’s GDP better than economies of other countries
– Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Anant Nageshwaran stated that India’s GDP remained at 6.1% in Q4, which is better than the economies of other countries.
– This indicates that the economy is maintaining momentum in the new financial year.
– This suggests the possibility of even higher revised figures.
GVA data
– GVA ie Gross Value Added has come down from 8.8% to 7% in FY23.
– While GDP is one of the most common indicators used to track the health of an economy, GVA measures the total output and income in an economy.
What is GVA (Gross Value Added)?
– From this, the total output and income in an economy is ascertained.
– GVA provides information about how many rupees worth of goods and services have been produced after taking out input costs and raw material prices in a given period and also gives information about the specific sector, industry. Or how much production has been done in the sector.
