– In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has given control of all services in the national capital, including IAS, to the Delhi government, excluding land, police, and law and order-related services.
– The Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice M.R. Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hemant Gupta, and Justice P.S. Narsimha unanimously delivered the verdict in this matter.
– The ruling states that a state or a union territory has the power to legislate on subjects in the concurrent list, but it will be subject to the existing central laws.
– It also needs to be ensured that the governance of the states does not fall into the hands of the central government.
